PETE HERRICK
Petty Officer Pete Herrick of Fort White, Florida, was a Seabee assigned to a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion in Ramadi, Iraq. On May 2, 2004 a mortar round slammed into the motor pool, where he and 43 of his men assembled. Five killed and 33 wounded.
Petty Officer Herrick had multiple wounds to his right arm and his left leg had to be amputated. One piece of shrapnel lodged in his lung, while another caught him in the neck, damaging his spinal cord and leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Pete was released from the hospital more then a year after he was wounded.
Today with the support of his family and friends, Pete speaks around the state to veterans and their families. Pete also has returned to one of his many loves, hunting.
